A full day of photography in scenic Shropshire using a 1953-built Leyland Royal Tiger single-decker, 19th June 2017

About this event

Shropshire is a truly scenic county, inspiring such famous writers as A E Housman, Mary Webb, Malcolm Saville and Ellis Peters, and this will be the destination for two days of Summer photography using two classic buses, one on each day, as we approach the longest day of the year. We may not visit all of "the quietest places under the sun" but we intend to include many scenic locations as we turn the clock back to the heyday of the rural motor coach in the 1950s and early 1960s.

Our vehicle for today is a superbly-restored Leyland Royal Tiger single-decker of 1953 vintage. The coach has Burlingham Seagull bodywork and was new to Danny Gittins Coaches based at Crickheath near Oswestry in January 1954. It later passed to Vaggs Coaches of Knockin Heath in April 1967 before being rescued for preservation by the Vista Group in the late-1970s. The coach has always been based in Shropshire and has been part of the Boultons fleet since 1987; it is in regular service for weddings and similar duties. The interior recently underwent a major refurbishment and is in great condition (please wipe your feet before boarding!), so it will be a day out with a truly classic vehicle.  

Places will be limited to ensure comfortable conditions for both photography and travel. Our starting point is to be confirmed, but we expect it to be Church Stretton. The day will include a lunchtime stop for refreshments and to give our driver a required rest. We will be accompanied by a number of re-enactors. 

We hope a number of you will join us for what we hope will be a relaxed and enjoyable day out with some great photographic opportunities thrown in for good measure.
